Hastahana — Floating Park, Sarajevo

Competition proposal 2022

The proposal for Hastahana Park imagines a floating park that extends the ground of Sarajevo into the sky. By gently extruding the existing surface, the project forms an elevated landscape that becomes part of the city’s skyline — a public horizon suspended above the ground.

A field of slender columns supports this lifted surface, carrying both its structure and its idea: the continuation of public life between earth and sky. Beneath it, a second park unfolds — shaded, enclosed, and active. This lower space, shaped as a skatepark, becomes a vibrant social pocket, contrasting the calm green plane above.

A ramp connects the two levels, creating a smooth transition between the grounded and the elevated, between energy and stillness. The upper surface also acts as a viewing platform, offering wide, open views over the city of Sarajevo and the surrounding mountains.

Together, the two layers form one continuous public landscape — a simple architectural gesture that transforms a park into a dialogue between gravity, structure, and collective experience.
